Youth Empowering Youth (YEY)

Our Mission

Many of the child welfare youth working with YEY has advised that Ontario’s child welfare children and youth are being exposed to extreme poverty leading to sexual, emotional, and psychological harm; too often, with little support from their children’s aid society. Many child welfare youth experience homelessness and precarious housing before the age of 18, among other abuses.

In addition to the harm the youth are exposed to, it has been well documented that there are a disproportionate number of Black and Indigenous youth represented within the child welfare system in Ontario and across Canada. Sadly, there is also a disproportionate number of child welfare youth in the youth criminal justice system in Ontario; this often leads to involvement in the adult criminal justice system. 👩🏽‍⚖️
