Supports for Youth 21+ Years of Age

Once you have had your 21^st birthday, you are no longer eligible for coverage under the KARE Plan, but may be eligible for the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies (OACAS) Aftercare Benefit Initiative (ABI).

There are a few requirements for eligibility for former youth in care, including those in Continued Care and Support for Youth (CCSY) and Volunteer Youth Service Agreements (VYSA).

• They must be between the ages of 21 and 24, and not eligible for any other health insurance plan.
• They must apply themselves, with an online enrollment www.oacas.org/abi
• Must have their status verified by their CAS worker

ABI will provide healthcare benefits through Greenshield Canada as well as counselling and Employee Assistant Program (EAP) supports through Morneau-Shepell. If you have a dependent, they will also be covered under the ABI plan
