Supports for Youth 21+ Years of Age
Once you have had your 21st birthday, you are no longer eligible for coverage under the KARE Plan, but may be eligible for the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies (OACAS) Aftercare Benefit Initiative (ABI).
There are a few requirements for eligibility for former youth in care, including those in Continued Care and Support for Youth (CCSY) and Volunteer Youth Service Agreements (VYSA).
- They must be between the ages of 21 and 24, and not eligible for any other health insurance plan.
- They must apply themselves, with an online enrollment www.oacas.org/abi
- Must have their status verified by their CAS worker
ABI will provide healthcare benefits through Greenshield Canada as well as counselling and Employee Assistant Program (EAP) supports through Morneau-Shepell. If you have a dependent, they will also be covered under the ABI plan
